There are two fixtures in your bathroom that probably work harder than all of the fixtures in your bathroom. They have to take more weight and get more use than anything else in the bathroom. Because of the way that they are mounted to the wall they are also very vulnerable – they have to be offset from the wall in order to do there job. You guessed what they are yet? I’m talking about your toilet roll holder and towel rail.
There can’t be many bathrooms in develop countries that don’t have one or both of these fittings in them, and as such the market for them is huge. There is a incomprehensible array of different styles of fixtures in shops making it very difficult to make a decision to which one is best for your bathroom.
Many people do not like putting up fixtures in the bathroom because it involves drilling through tiles walls. Using the right equipment, drilling through ceramic surfaces is no problem at all and shouldn’t put you off. There is no other reliable method of fixing heavy use items to the wall.
There are a couple of points to consider when purchasing any bathroom fittings.
- If you’re buying a wooden fitting always make sure it is a hard wood or a fake wood, the humidity in a bathroom will quickly damage soft wood fixtures.
- If you’re buying metal fixings makes sure that in the case of a chrome plated fitting the material underneath it is corrosion resistant brass, if you get stainless steel it is irrelevant and will remain in tip-top condition for years to come.
